Only later might they reveal that the problem continues.
What Changed for My Sister
Over time, things improved.
She began talking more openly about school.
She stopped taking the long route through the building.
She became more comfortable asking for help.
Her grades gradually returned to normal.
Most importantly, she stopped believing that she had to deal with everything alone.
That was the real change.
It wasn’t the replacement jacket.
It wasn’t the disciplinary process.
It wasn’t even the school meeting.
It was the moment she understood that adults would listen when she said something was wrong.
What Changed for Me
The experience changed my perspective too.
Before this happened, I might have looked at a damaged jacket and thought:
It’s just clothing.
Now I understand that belongings can sometimes provide clues.
A child whose backpack is repeatedly damaged may be experiencing something more serious.
A student who suddenly stops wearing a favorite outfit may have a reason.
