But the letter revealed something else. The man she had always called "Uncle Jean" at family gatherings... was actually her biological father. She had grown up close to him all her life without ever suspecting it.

After rereading the letter several times, she had experienced a complex feeling: stupor, obviously, but also a deep and peaceful gratitude. Rose had not kept this secret out of weakness, but out of love. To offer him a sweet childhood, a solid home, a life without fractures.
