People Vaccinated Against COVID-19 May Still Get Sick — Here’s What That Really Means
A COVID-19 vaccination does not create an invisible shield that makes infection impossible. Vaccinated people can still catch COVID-19 and experience symptoms. But that fact does not mean the vaccines “do not work.” The most important question is not simply whether someone can become infected — it is how likely they are to develop severe disease, require hospitalization, or die.
The headline sounds alarming at first:
“People vaccinated against COVID-19 may be sick…”
For someone scrolling quickly through
COVID-19.
But that statement by itself leaves out the most important part of the story.
The Question Many People Still Ask
Imagine someone receives a COVID-19 vaccine and believes they are now completely protected from the virus.
Months later, they develop a sore throat.
Then comes fatigue.
Perhaps they develop a fever, cough, headache or congestion.
A COVID-19 test comes back positive.
