Just saw this terrifying creature with way too many legs darting across my basement floor. It looks prehistoric and has huge antennae. Is this thing dangerous?

Reduce Excess Moisture

Repair leaking faucets and pipes, improve ventilation in bathrooms, and

use a dehumidifier in persistently damp rooms if needed.

If your basement has ongoing water intrusion or dampness, address the underlying source rather than simply treating the symptoms.

Seal Cracks and Gaps

Inspect areas around plumbing, window frames, doors, baseboards, and utility openings. Seal appropriate gaps with suitable materials, and install door sweeps or repair damaged weatherstripping where necessary.

Reduce Clutter

Keep cardboard boxes, stored fabrics, and other belongings off damp floors when possible. Organize storage areas so that you can clean and inspect them more easily.

Manage Other Household

Pests

Since centipedes hunt other arthropods, reducing the availability of their prey may make your home less attractive to them.

Store food securely, clean up crumbs, manage waste, and address any recurring insect problem.

Check Entry Points and Outdoor Conditions

Keep doors and windows fitted with intact screens. Remove unnecessary debris close to the foundation, and correct drainage problems that leave areas around the building persistently wet.
