No orchestra.
No billionaire gala.
Just snow.
Three children.
Two people who had survived the wreckage of other people’s choices.
And one second chance neither of them had expected.
Daniel covered his eyes.
“Finally.”
Hannah laughed against Ethan’s mouth.
Then her phone rang.
She groaned.
“Please don’t let that be another reporter.”
She looked at the screen.
Unknown number.
She answered.
“Hello?”
A woman spoke.
“Ms. Mercer? My name is Grace Holloway. I’m calling regarding the Samuel Mercer Trust.”
Hannah glanced at Ethan.
“Yes?”
“There has been a development.”
Hannah sighed.
“What kind?”
“The original trust documents contained a delayed beneficiary clause.”
“A what?”
The lawyer paused.
“If Caldwell Medical Holdings ever lost majority Caldwell-family control, the remainder of Samuel Mercer’s founding assets would revert to his biological descendants.”
Hannah frowned.
“How much are we talking about?”
Silence.
Then:
“Approximately four-point-eight billion dollars.”
Hannah nearly dropped the phone.
