Hannah watched from the bed.
“What is it?”
Ethan couldn’t answer.
The report compared genetic samples from Richard Caldwell, Margaret Caldwell, and one unnamed seventeen-year-old male.
Relationship probability.
Caldwell family biological relationship confirmed.
Hannah whispered, “Ethan?”
He turned the page.
There was a photograph clipped beneath it.
A teenage boy stood outside a private boarding school in Switzerland.
Dark hair.
Gray eyes.
A familiar crooked smile.
Ethan knew that smile.
He saw it every morning in the mirror.
On the back of the photograph, someone had written a name.
Samuel Caldwell.
Hannah’s voice shook.
“What does it say?”
Ethan looked at the seventeen-year-old boy who could not possibly exist if Hannah had been pregnant only five years ago.
Then he saw the final handwritten note beneath the photograph.
Ethan, Hannah’s missing child was not the first. Ask Mother what happened in 2009.
Ethan slowly raised his eyes.
Across the room, Hannah stared at him in horror.
