Then closed it again.
I didn’t need documents.
Everything relevant was already sitting with our outside counsel.
“Three million eight hundred thousand dollars,” I said.
Daniel went still.
“Transferred over eighteen months through consulting companies with no employees.”
Vanessa’s hand slipped away from his arm.
Daniel turned toward her.
“Don’t.”
She whispered,
“You told me nobody could trace those.”
His head snapped in her direction.
I almost admired the timing.
Daniel grabbed her wrist.
“Shut up.”
Adrian stepped immediately between them.
“Take your hand off her.”
Daniel released Vanessa.
Not because his manners had improved.
Because two members of hotel security had already noticed the situation.
His voice became more urgent.
“Claire, listen to me. Those transactions have explanations.”
“Wonderful.”
I nodded.
“You can explain them Monday.”
His brow furrowed.
“Monday?”
“To federal investigators.”
Vanessa gasped.
Daniel became completely motionless.
I hadn’t reported him because he cheated on me.
