My mouth fell open.
“Forty-seven million?”
“Much of it appears to be proceeds from fraud and property transactions.
But there’s more.”
She took a breath.
“Grant wasn’t just investigating the company.”
“What do you mean?”
“He was the legitimate controlling beneficiary of a trust holding substantial company assets.
Daniel and Miles appear to have been diverting funds from it.”
I stared through the window.
“Then they killed him for the money.”
Rebecca answered carefully.
“Money was a major motive.
But investigators believe Grant also had evidence linking them to Peter’s death.”
I looked at Benjamin, who was sitting across the room studying a photograph of his sisters.
For five years, Miles had pretended to love us.
But perhaps he had another reason to stay close.
He had been looking for whatever evidence Grant had hidden.
And he believed it might still be somewhere inside our family home.
