Applying leaves directly to the eyes will not make cataracts disappear or fully restore vision. Cataracts develop when the normally clear lens inside the eye becomes cloudy, causing blurred or hazy vision, glare around lights, difficulty seeing at night, faded colors, and sometimes frequent changes in prescription glasses.

Although some leaves contain antioxidants and other plant compounds that may be part of a healthy diet, there is no reliable evidence that placing fresh leaves on the eyes can dissolve a cataract or reverse the clouding of the eye’s natural lens. Putting raw leaves, plant juices, homemade preparations, or other unsterile substances directly onto the eyes can actually cause irritation, allergic reactions, scratches, or eye infections.
The good news is that cataracts are treatable. When a cataract begins interfering with reading, driving, recognizing faces, working, or other daily activities, an eye doctor can perform a comprehensive eye examination and determine whether cataract treatment is appropriate. In the early stages, brighter lighting, updated prescription glasses, anti-glare measures, and other adjustments may make vision easier.
