Tyne Daly: a brave interracial love and three daughters with extraordinary journeys

Getting married in 1966 was as much about love as it was about political courage. In many American states, intermarriage is still strictly prohibited by law. Tyne, on the other hand, refuses to be labelled. She summed up their union with a formula that has become unforgettable: she simply married *"another member of the human species"*. It's all there, in six words.

On screen, their audacity does not weaken. Their kiss broadcast on *The Rookies* caused an immediate uproar — the censors demanded that the sequence be deleted. The couple refuses to bend. The scene passes. A discreet victory, but considerable in view of the historical context.

Juggling between motherhood and career, without ever giving up
Tyne had imagined raising six children. Life has charted a slightly different path, but not so far from dreaming. Alisabeth arrived in 1967, Kathryne in 1971. Then, at the age of 39, Tyne convinced Georg to take in a third child. Alyxandra — affectionately known as Zanny — was born in 1985, in the middle of filming Cagney & Lacey.
