MY SON WAS BULLIED THROUGHOUT SCHOOL — THEY DIDN'T EVEN INVITE HIM TO THE 10-YEAR REUNION.

I didn't.

"My foundation does," Daniel said. "For three years now. Anonymously.

They're holding their reunion in a building my work pays to keep open.

And in about a week, that building is announcing a major new program.

An anti-bullying initiative. Funded entirely by a donor who asked to reveal himself in person, at an event there.

I moved the announcement up.

To the night of the reunion.

I'm not crashing their party, Mom.

They're crashing mine."

PART 3

Here is what happened that night, which Daniel told me, and which three other people confirmed because they couldn't wait to.

The reunion was in the main hall of the Ashwood Center — maybe a hundred and twenty people, the graduating class and their spouses, name tags, a slideshow of old photos, a cash bar.

Daniel walked in without an invitation, in his best suit, and the room noticed him the way a room notices a stone dropped in water.
