Silence.
Mom stared at him.
“What everything else?”
Marcus glanced toward me.
I nodded.
He placed three credit reports on the table.
One was mine. One belonged to Chloe. One belonged to Dad.
Chloe picked hers up.
“What is this?”
“Look at the second page,” Marcus said.
Her expression shifted.
“There’s a business line of credit.”
“Yes.”
“I never opened this.”
“No.”
Her voice sharpened.
“It says eighty-four thousand dollars.”
Mom reacted immediately.
“Chloe, sweetheart, let me explain.”
Chloe looked at her.
It was the first time that evening I saw genuine worry on my sister’s face.
“You used my name?”
“I was trying to help your business.”
“By borrowing eighty-four thousand dollars?”
“You needed investment!”
“I didn’t know anything about it!”
Dad closed his eyes.
Marcus tapped my report.
“And there’s a forty-two-thousand-dollar application pending under Grace’s name.”
I stared at Mom.
