My MIL Let Herself Into Our House While I Slept with My Newborn – Then I Heard Her Say, ‘She Can Never Know’

“Can everyone stop? Jess just gave birth.”

I stared at him.

“Don’t use the fact that I just had a baby to make me sound irrational.”

“I didn’t say you were irrational.”

“You didn’t have to.”

He looked away.

I was furious, but at least I thought I now understood the conversation I had overheard.

“She can never know.”

He didn’t want me knowing he had canceled daycare.

Dishonest?

Absolutely.

But at least it seemed like I had an explanation.

I was wrong.

For the next several days, things between Caleb and me remained tense.

He apologized, but every apology was followed by another explanation for why he thought canceling daycare made sense.

“We could put that money toward the mortgage,” he said one evening.

“We also could have discussed it together like married adults.”

“I know.”

“You always seem to know afterward.”

He didn’t answer.
