She looked happy.
And she looked completely unaware.
That changed everything.
I had imagined marching into the ceremony and humiliating Adrian in front of everyone.
But Sarah wasn’t the person who had betrayed me.
If she already knew the truth, that was one thing.
If she didn’t, she was moments away from marrying the same liar I had nearly married.
I slowly walked toward her.
Colleen came after me.
“Meredith, don’t.”
Sarah looked up at me.
“Can I help you?”
“I’m the florist.”
She offered a faint smile.
“The flowers are beautiful.”
“Thank you.”
“Before you walk down that aisle, there’s something you need to know.”
Her smile vanished.
Colleen whispered my name.
I ignored her.
Sarah’s eyes moved between the two of us.
“What are you talking about?”
I told her everything.
Not loudly.
Not theatrically.
I told her that Adrian had been engaged to me three months earlier.
I told her about the car accident.
I told her about the closed coffin.
I told her I had attended his funeral.
Sarah simply stared.
“That’s impossible.”
“I wish it were.”
