I drove to his house with Chloe. His girlfriend answered the door in his shirt. "Your baby mama's here for another handout," she laughed.
"I only need it for her treatment," I begged.
Eric glanced at Chloe. "I have a life now. Stop showing up with your little brat." They shut the door.
I called the last person I expected to trust: Eric's mother, Barbara. We'd never gotten along.
After I told her everything, the line went silent. "He didn't even tell me you were pregnant. I'll be there soon."
An hour later she arrived in her coat over pajamas, lifted Chloe, and cooed to her.
Then she said, "I have a plan to teach Eric and that girlfriend a lesson. No man gets to humiliate the woman who carried his child."
Because what Eric had forgotten was that his entire lifestyle ran on his mother's money.
And she'd just decided to stop signing the checks.
