Examined the pump.
Tested the water.
Then he prepared a written estimate.
$7,800.
Richard reviewed it.
Melissa, his wife, reviewed it too.
Both of them signed the authorization before Dad began working.
Over the next nine days, Dad replaced the failing pump, repaired damaged plumbing, installed a new filtration system, and treated the water until the dark green pool became perfectly clear.
Everything worked exactly as it should.
On the final afternoon, I happened to be there when Dad presented the invoice.
Melissa stared at the amount.
“Seven thousand eight hundred dollars?”
“That’s what we agreed to,” Dad replied.
“For fixing a swimming pool?”
“For everything listed in the signed estimate.”
Dad opened his folder and showed her the paperwork.
Melissa barely glanced at it.
Instead, she turned toward me.
“My husband is your daughter’s boss.”
