The question that changed everything
On an ordinary evening, Jennifer tucked Emma into bed. The little girl hugged her, stared at her with her eyes wide open and whispered softly:
"Mom... if Sarah already does everything a mom does, why can't she be my mom in your place? »
Jennifer replied, her voice choked, "Because I'm your mom." *
Emma frowned. "But why not Sarah instead?"
A kiss on the forehead, an "I love you" whispered, and Jennifer left the room before tears betrayed her face.
That night, she stopped feeling guilty about feeling jealousy. And she really started to observe.
Parts that fit together
Thinking about all this, a pattern became obvious. Sarah was always the first to know: projects at school, outings, parties. She bought the carnival costume, brought the cakes for the class, volunteered for the sports days. Taken in isolation, each gesture seemed charming. Together, they formed something far more worrying.
