The restructuring wasn’t really about succession.
It was about burying transactions before the bank’s annual review.
Claire went pale.
My father pointed at me. “You went through our accounts?”
“I reviewed trust assets.”
“You had no right.”
“I had a duty.”
He stood so quickly his chair struck the wall.
For two years, they had called me unstable.
Now he was the only person shouting.
My father paced behind his chair.
“You will sign that document.”
“No.”
“You’ll destroy this family out of spite.”
I folded my hands. “I’m protecting the company from people treating it like a private ATM.”
Claire’s composure cracked first.
“This is because of graduation, isn’t it? Because Mom and Dad chose me?”
“No. That taught me who you were. This is about fraud.”
My mother gasped. “How dare you use that word?”
Maya turned one page in the binder. “Because the records support it.”
