His entire body went cold.
“By whom?”
“I never saw their faces.”
“Hannah.”
“They grabbed me outside my apartment.”
She looked down at her hands.
“When I woke up, I was in a private clinic.”
Ethan felt horror crawl through him.
“They told me I’d miscarried.”
His voice was barely audible.
“But you don’t believe them.”
“No.”
“Why?”
“Because I heard a baby crying.”
Ethan stared.
Hannah shook her head quickly.
“I know how that sounds. I was medicated. I was barely conscious.”
“At nine weeks, you couldn’t hear—”
“I know.”
She wiped at her face.
“I know that now. Which means either I hallucinated it…”
She swallowed.
“Or I wasn’t at nine weeks anymore when I woke up.”
Ethan’s mind raced.
“What are you saying?”
“I lost months.”
Silence.
“Months?”
“I remember being pregnant in October. Then I woke in that clinic and it was February.”
