Then suddenly the photographs appeared.
The bank transfers.
The hotel.
The messages.
And Richard had been the one who placed everything in Ethan’s hands.
“She’s been using you.”
Ethan had believed him.
Because Richard never lied to him.
At least that was what Ethan believed then.
A voice interrupted his thoughts.
“You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
Ethan turned.
Hannah had been brought back toward her room.
She sat beneath a blanket in the wheelchair, pale and exhausted.
Their eyes met.
Ethan stepped closer.
“Hannah.”
She saw the phone in his hand.
Then his expression.
“What?”
“Five years ago.”
Her face changed.
“No.”
“I need to know something.”
“I said no.”
“The man in those photographs.”
Hannah’s fingers clenched around the blanket.
“Don’t.”
“Who was he?”
“Leave it buried.”
“Who was he?”
She stared at him.
Then laughed bitterly.
“You still don’t know?”
