I fastened my mother’s bracelet around my wrist and looked at myself in the vault’s glass reflection.
The woman staring back at me was technically the same woman Daniel had left sleeping in bed at 2:37 that morning.
But something fundamental had changed.
She no longer needed his approval to understand her own strength.
Daniel had left our house believing that by sunrise, I would wake up without a husband, without money, and without a future.
In one sense, he was right.
That morning, I lost a dishonest husband.
But I kept my company.
My assets.
My mother’s legacy.
And something I had surrendered long before I realized it.
My own voice.
I closed the empty velvet case and smiled.
Daniel wanted me to wake up with nothing.
Instead, that morning was the first time in nine years that I truly woke up.
