4. New or Worsening Chest
Amlodipine is actually used to help treat certain types of angina, but rarely, chest pain can worsen when treatment begins or the dose changes, especially in people with severe coronary artery disease.
New, severe, or worsening chest pain should always be taken seriously.
Call emergency services if chest discomfort is:
Heavy
Crushing
Persistent
Spreading to the arm, jaw, back, or shoulder
Accompanied by sweating, nausea, or shortness of breath
5. Shortness of Breath
Breathlessness is not one of the most common amlodipine side effects, but it can be important when it appears with swelling, chest discomfort, or marked weakness.
Possible causes include:
Excess fluid retention
Heart problems
Lung problems
An allergic reaction
Another unrelated condition
Sudden or severe shortness of breath needs prompt medical evaluation.
